Arts and Scraps – Deadwood History

Students are invited to the Days of '76 Museum to create imaginative works of art using leftover items including paint, fabric, pvc pipe, beads, and so much more. Children can make any kind of art project their minds can think of. Light refreshments provided. For students in grades K-6; Days of '76 Museum; 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; $6 for museum members, $11 for non-members. Reservations required. Attention dog and cat lovers! Share in this annual celebration honoring Patsy, the beloved terrier of William Emery Adams. Guests who make a donation of dog/cat food will receive free admission to the Historic Adams House. Tours for Patsy’s Day are hourly; the first tour leaving at 10:00 a.m. and the last tour of the day leaving at 4:00 p.m. Photos of cats and dogs available for adoption will be on display. Crazy Horse Memorial will celebrate Korczak Day on May 3, 2015. In 1983, the South Dakota Legislature honored the sculptor of the world-famous Crazy Horse Mountain carving with a proclamation officially calling attention to Korczak’s dedication to honor the Indians of North America. Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation will celebrate Korczak Day on May 3rd and his life's work, now carried on by the Ziolkowski family and the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation Board of Directors and staff.

May 6 is the anniversary of the passing of Korczak and Ruth Ziolkowski's daughter, Anne Z. (1955-2011). Anne was the curator of the Indian Museum of North America at Crazy Horse Memorial, and her efforts started many traditions such as night blasts, art shows and the summer lecture series. In honor of Mother’s Day, the Historic Adams House and Days of ‘76 Museum will offer free admission to visiting mothers. Show your mom how much you love her by sharing a tour of the beautifully restored Victorian home and explore vintage wagons and carriages in Deadwood’s newest museum.
