Day 3:

Rush Mountain Adventure Park, Keystone

For an adventure the kids (and adults!) will never forget, head to Rush Mountain Adventure Park. Attractions include the Rushmore Mountain Coaster, Soaring Eagle Zipline, Gemstone Mining, Gunslinger 7-D Interactive Ride, and Rushmore Cave tours.

Prepare to spend 1-4 hours.

Tips: The Wristband Pass is $50 for ages 13+, $45 for ages 5-12, and $20 for children under 5. Costs are decreased during off-season.

Big Thunder Gold Mine, Keystone

This 1892 mine offers underground tours, a mining museum, antique store, and the opportunity to pan for gold in nearby creek. Big Thunder Gold Mine is the ideal place for children and adults alike to learn about Black Hills mining history.

Prepare to spend 1-2 hours.

Tips: Tours cost $9.95 for adults, $6.95 for children 5-12, and free for children under 5. On-site gold panning is $9.95 per person or $7.95 with a mine tour.

Mount Rushmore, Keystone

A trip to the Black Hills would not be complete without a visit to Mount Rushmore. Walk the Presidential Trail to get a closer look at the four faces and look for local wildlife. Head to Memorial Team Ice Cream for Thomas Jefferson ice cream.

Prepare to spend 1-3 hours.

Tips: Admission is free, but a parking pass is $10 per vehicle, $5 for seniors, and free for active duty military. This pass can be used for a full year after the date of purchase.

Grapes & Grinds, Keystone

Take a break and head to Grapes & Grinds for locally-made gelato, coffee, wine, fudge, and bagels.

Prepare to spend less than 1 hour.

Teddy’s Deli, Keystone

Named after Theodore Roosevelt, Teddy’s is famous for their one-pound Reuben. Other menu options include hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, hot dogs, soups, salads, and burgers.

Prepare to spend 1 hour.

Tips: Teddy’s is only open May through September.

Turtle Town, Keystone

From Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans to Rock Candy to chocolate replicas of Mount Rushmore, Turtle Town has a huge variety of candy for families to browse.

Prepare to spend less than 1 hour.
