New Year Celebrations in the Black Hills

Watch the ball drop at the many New Year’s countdowns in the Black Hills, from family friendly countdowns to lively New Year’s Eve Parties!

Celebrate the New Year at New Year’s Eve in Deadwood, for a party that only rowdy Deadwood could throw! The ball drops at midnight at the Historic Franklin Hotel, but the party doesn’t end there. The local casinos and bars stay open all night so you can party as long as you’d like.

For a date night without the kids, head to the Hotel Alex Johnson for their New Year’s Eve party. The Black & White New Year’s Eve party starts at 9PM and standard access tickets are only $15! There will be a midnight ball drop, cash bar, live music by Tiki Man Entertainment, ping pong shootout, and drink specials.

Ring in the New Year with a concert by Black Hills Symphony Orchestra. The NYE show is called “Romance, Intrigue, Champagne!”, so it is sure to be an exciting evening. The show has Strauss waltzes, classical favorites, and tales of romance. Get tickets at bhsymphony.org or 605-394-1786.

Get a jumpstart on your resolutions and burn off some of those Christmas cookies at the Black Hills Winter Carnival in Spearfish on December 30 and 31. The 30 will have a free ski clinic and equipment rentals. The Winter Carnival is on New Year’s Eve, and visitors can gather around the bonfire and warm up before the ski race!

Spend the last day of the year at the Downtown Countdown at Main Street Square while ice skating, dancing, and playing games with your family. The square’s ice rink is hosting a dance party in the time leading up to the countdown!

After a late night, get started on your resolutions and go on the First Day Hike in Custer State Park. It is a guided trek on Creekside Trail and starts at 10AM at the Peter Norbeck Outdoor Education Center.
