Night Blasts at Crazy Horse Memorial

Very popular at Crazy Horse Memorial are the two night blasts held each year, weather permitting.

The June 26th blast celebrates the birthday of Mrs. Korczak (Ruth) Ziolkowski, wife of the late sculptor. Since her husband’s death in 1982, Ruth has directed all operations at the nonprofit Memorial.

The blast also commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn that took place on June 25, 1876. Crazy Horse’s strategy was an integral factor in the defeat of Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and his troops.

The second traditional night blast is September 6, celebrating the death of Crazy Horse and the birth of Korczak Ziolkowski in 1908.
